When to launch your product in beta is an uncertain science. Feature creep is perpetual, you are never really satisfied, and every day you wake up chewing on a running list of things that you know could be better if you just had a little more time.
But at some point you really do need to let go, open the doors and let your customers weigh in a little.
We’ve been working on the Slicebooks Store for a several months now, and particularly the eBook Remixer. Publishers have been clamoring to play with it, so today we finally started private beta. Hundreds of publishers are joining, and soon we’ll get some real feedback on our progress.
If you are a publisher and want to join the test, contact us.
We’ve been keeping our heads down and pounding hard on getting the Slicebooks Store ready for a publishers-only private beta, so much so that summer seemed to pass us right by. At our home lab here in Denver, seems like just yesterday it was just close to 100 degrees outside, too hot to even ride a bike. But today it snowed a little.
But we are on pace to get the beta going before the end of October. Lines of publishers are signed up to participate and put our new Consumer Remix Widget through its paces (contact us if you want to join). We’ll then weed through the feedback and tweak-requests and bugs we haven’t identified yet, and then we’ll launch the store live in November. Whew!
In the meantime our meeting schedule at Frankfurt Fair is nearly overflowing. It seems everyone wants to know about slicing and remixing these days. But if you really need a demo drop us a line and we’ll do our best to figure something out.
We’ll be launching the newly redesigned Slicebooks Digital Publishing Platform in beta at Book Expo America 2012 at the Javits Center, NYC on June 4-6. Stop by for a 5 minute demo and see how Slicebooks can transform your digital content catalog.
After a successful private beta (thanks to all the publishers who participated) we have been busy tweaking the Slicebooks user interface based on all the good feedback we received. We plan to release a new and improved Slicebooks in public beta in time for the opening of our booth at BEA 2012 in NYC on June 4. We are particularly excited by our new Remixing UI, which makes it more intuitive for publishers to create custom content by easily mixing & matching all available PDF or ePub content. Those slices can be uploaded from various sources (ebooks, journals, articles) or sliced from eBooks using the Slicebooks slicing tool.
Contact us for an appointment at BEA 2012 from June 5-7 to see how Slicebooks can revolutionize your digital publishing program.
We’re pretty excited to get our private beta going today. For this round we selected a few publishers to put Slicebooks through its paces, see what works and what needs attention. They get to slice a few books, create and publish new remixed collections and edit their metadata with the Publisher Dashboard. We will then collect feedback and tweak what needs tweaking before releasing the public beta before the London Book Fair in April.
If you are a publisher of 50+ titles and would like to test Slicebooks, you can still apply to test Slicebooks free here. We’ll keep the private beta open until January 31.
