Spanish ebooks & bilingual remixing

Publishers participating in the beta test of our new Slicebooks Store platform come up with all sorts of different use cases for the eBook Remixer.

One of our beta testers is Twin Sisters Productions, who aim to be “the leaders in children’s educational music”.  The folks at Twin Sisters also produce content in Spanish, and are now experimenting with remixing English and Spanish content to produce bilingual ebook collections for their users.  We expect this trend to continue in other languages as more bilingual publishers get their catalogs sliced.

As for Spanish ebooks in particular, as Good eReader reports, sales of Spanish language ebooks has exploded.

What are the driving factors of Spanish eBook sales? This can be attributed to Latinos adopting tablet computers and e-readers at an accelerated rate. According to a recent study by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project. In 2011, about 1 in 20 Hispanics owned such a device, the group found; in 2012, the number had jumped to nearly 1 in 5.

Slicebooks Store launching soon in private beta

Screen Shot 2013-12-16 at 11.42.21 AMSoon, like maybe this week, we’ll be launching the Slicebooks Store in private beta. We’re pretty excited about that. What’s so special about the Slicebooks Store? It will be the first in the world to offer ebooks “whole, sliced and remixable,”  which means consumers can get just a slice of any book, or mix & match slices of content and remix their own ebooks.

The store features our new first-in-the-world eBook Remix Widget. This cool tool lets you grab slices of content as you go and, when you are ready, in just 3 steps you can create your own custom ebook.  During private beta we’re only letting publishers play with it, but early in 2014 we’ll be launching it to the public. If you’d like to be notified when we’re launching, go here and enter your email address.
